A line in the latter paragraphs of this essay struck me as particularly true: "Twitter can considerably level the playing field: you are not on the podium or on a stage. It is not meant to be an auditorium, but a seminar room." Using social media requires a certain amount of vulnerability, a willingness to put oneself at risk--note I said using. Lurking, on the other hand, requires no investment of self. Are you a user or a lurker?
