Sie lügen und betrügen, um ans Ziel zu kommen: Systeme mit Künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) sind in der Lage, Menschen zu täuschen – selbst wenn sie darauf trainiert wurden, hilfreich und ehrlich zu sein. Das ist das Ergebnis einer Übersichtsstudie von Forschern am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge (US-Bundesstaat Massachusetts), die in der Fachzeitschrift "Patterns" veröffentlicht wurde. In dem Beitrag forderten die Wissenschaftler die Politik auf, so schnell wie möglich strenge Vorschriften zu entwickeln, um KI-Systeme in die Schranken zu weisen.

This time last year we did something reckless. In an industry where nothing stands still, we had a go at predicting the future. 

Some of the world’s biggest academic journal publishers have banned or curbed their authors from using the advanced chatbot, ChatGPT. Because the bot uses information from the internet to produce highly readable answers to questions, the publishers are worried that inaccurate or plagiarised work could enter the pages of academic literature.

Several researchers have already listed the chatbot as a co-author on academic studies, and some publishers have moved to ban this practice. But the editor-in-chief of Science, one of the top scientific journals in the world, has gone a step further and forbidden any use of text from the program in submitted papers.

A group of Toyota engineers was inspired by the Japanese manga about basketball and in its free time built a robot that can throw the ideal three-pointer into the basket. After the robot was tested and finalized, the Japanese arranged a test for their pupils - a match with professional basketball players. And he won all.

It is claimed that the robot basketball player was trained with AI, but on video, his behavior looks much simpler: he rolls on wheels and repeats the same movements again and again.
However, this uncomplicated and uncreative behavior was enough to defeat several players from the professional league. The robot is simply more consistent and regular in its actions. To win, it is enough just to make fewer mistakes than a person.

Towards this end, researchers at MIT are investigating ways of making artificial neural networks more transparent in their decision-making. As they stand now, artificial neural networks are a wonderful tool for discerning patterns and making predictions. But they also have the drawback of not being terribly transparent.

The beauty of an artificial neural network is its ability to sift through heaps of data and find structure within the noise. This is not dissimilar from the way we might look up at clouds and see faces amidst their patterns.

And just as we might have trouble explaining to someone why a face jumped out at us from the wispy trails of a cirrus cloud formation, artificial neural networks are not explicitly designed to reveal what particular elements of the data prompted them to decide a certain pattern was at work and make predictions based upon it.

FEI-FEI LI IS a big deal in the world of AI. As the director of the Artificial Intelligence and Vision labs at Stanford University, she oversaw the creation of ImageNet, a vast database of images designed to accelerate the development of AI that can “see.” And, well, it worked, helping to drive the creation of deep learning systems that can recognize objects, animals, people, and even entire scenes in photos—technology that has become commonplace on the world’s biggest photo-sharing sites. Facebook Manages to Squeeze an AI Into Its Mobile App
Alongside a former Stanford researcher—Jia Li, who more recently ran research for the social networking service Snapchat—the China-born Fei-Fei will lead a team inside Google’s cloud computing operation, building online services that any coder or company can use to build their own AI. This new Cloud Machine Learning Group is the latest example of AI not only re-shaping the technology that Google uses, but also changing how the company organizes and operates its business.
